Ingredients

8oz Dates, stoned and chopped

1 1/2 tsp Baking Soda

250ml Water, boiling

8oz Butter

8oz Sugar

2 Eggs, beaten

8oz Flour, self-raising

1 tbsp Black Treacle

1/2 tsp Salt

1/2 tsp Cinnamon

4oz Walnuts, chopped

Method

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Mix the dates, baking soda and boiling water.

Set aside and leave until cool.

Cream the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.

Add the beaten eggs, treacle and dates and mix well.

Now add the remaining ingredients.

Turn the mixture into a large greased loaf tin.

Bake for approximately one hour.

Cooks Comments and Tips

Make this loaf in advance as it tastes better if left for two days before cutting.

Freezes well.
