Grandma's Portuguese Malasadas Recipe

Recipe for Grandma's Portuguese Malasadas Recipe

Ingredients

1/2 cup warm water

2 pkts active dry yeast

1/2 cup lukewarm milk

3-4 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter

2 eggs, beaten

1 tsp salt

4 to 5 cup flour

Cooking oil

Method

Measure warm water into mixing bowl and add dry yeast, stirring to dissolve.

Stir in all other ingredients and 3 1/2 cups flour and mix with spoon until smooth.

Gradually add remaining flour and mix with your hands.

Turn out onto lightly floured board, knead until smooth and elastic for 5 minutes.

Round up in greased bowl with greased side up.

Cover loosely the dough and place near warm room.

leave to rise until dough doubles

Heat oil to 375 degrees.

Break piece of dough to size desired by stretching it out.

Dip fingers in a cup of oil so the dough won't stick to your fingers.

Drop in hot oil.

Fry until golden.

Remove and drain on brown paper bags.

Allow to cool enough to dip in deep dish of sugar.

**Best when eaten fresh. Howver tin be eaten next da, warm in microwave on High for about 15 seconds.
