Recipe for Portuguese Sweet Bread 5 Recipe

Ingredients

2lb 8oz (1.1kg) flour

2 cup sugar

1 1/2 tsp salt

4oz (113g) butter, margarine

5 large eggs

1 pt. lukewarm milk

2 cakes of yeast

Method

Beat egg then add the sugar, melted butter and yeast.

Gradually mix in the flour and milk.

Knead the dough until it has a satiny sheen.

Cover and leave to rise until double in bulk.

Knead again, leave to rise again, place in loaf pan (round is okay too).

Keep the dough warm.

Put dough in buttered bowl and again leave double in volume.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Cool on racks before slicing.
