Recipe for Portuguese Portugese Sweet Bread 23 Recipe

Ingredients

2 pkts dry yeast

1/2 cup warm water

1 cup milk, scalded (82°C/180°F, nearly boiling)

1/2 cup butter

2 tsp salt

6 eggs

1 1/2 cup sugar

9 cup flour

Method

In large mixing bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water.

Add butter and salt to milk and leave to cool.

Beat eggs and sugar.

Add milk mixture, then stir into yeast mixture.

Add flour and knead to a soft touch.

Let sit in oiled bowl until double in size.

Knead again on board and divide into 3 to 4 parts.

Put in oiled pans (loaf pans) and leave to rise again until double in size.

Cook in preheated oven (350 degrees) for 30 minutes or until done.

Brush the tops of baked bread whilst still hot with melted butter.
