Italian Recipe Calzone Recipe

Recipe for Italian Recipe Calzone Recipe

Ingredients

10oz Calzone Dough

Parmesan Cheese (grated)

1 Egg

Water

For Filling

4oz Swiss Cheese (grated)

4oz Cooked Ham (finely diced)

2 Spring Onion (finely sliced)

1 bunch Fresh Spinach (chopped)

Method

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Meanwhile, cut the dough into six pieces and roll into circles.

In a small bowl mix the beaten egg with a little water and brush around the edge of the circle..

Mix all the filling ingredients in a bowl.

Spoon an equal amounts of the mixture onto half of each circle to within 1/2 inch of edges.

Fold dough over filling and press firmly to seal edges so that the filling doesn't escape during cooking.

Arrange the calzones on a baking tray, brush with the egg mixture and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.

Cook for  about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Leave on cooling rack for 5 minutes before serving.

Cooks Comments and Tips

Although tempting as it is to eat the calzone straight away it is important to let the calzone cool for at least 5 minutes.  The calzone may appear to be cool on the outside but take it from one who has had a burnt mouth on more than one occasion the filling for the calzone takes a while longer to cool.
