Italian Calzone Pizza Recipe

Recipe for Italian Calzone Pizza Recipe

Ingredients

8oz Italian Sausage

700ml Pasta Sauce

6oz Fresh Mushrooms (sliced)

1/2 Green Pepper (chopped)

1/2 Onion (chopped)

1lb Calzone Dough

1 Egg (beaten)

1 tablespoon Water

8oz Mozzarella (grated)

Method

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large pan brown the sausage and pour off  the fat.

Add 150mls of the pasta sauce, mushrooms, green pepper and onion. Simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, cut the dough into eight pieces and roll into circles

In a small bowl mix the beaten egg with a little water and brush around the edge of the circle..

Stir the mozzarella into sausage mixture.

Spoon an equal amount of the mixture onto half of each circle to within 1/2 inch of edges.

Fold dough over filling and press firmly to seal edges so that the filling doesn't escape during cooking.

Arrange on a baking tray and brush with the egg mixture.

Cook for  about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Heat remaining pasta sauce with serve over the calzones.

The pasta sauce for the calzone pizza can be either a tomato pasta sauce or a meat pasta sauce, either works equally well.
