Lemon Bread Recipes
Ingredients 1 c. butter or margarine 2 c. sugar 4 eggs, separated 3 1/4 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 1/4 c. milk 1 c. finely chopped nuts Grated peel of 2 lemons FRESH juice of 2 lemons 1/2 c. sugar Method Cream butter, gradually add 2 cups sugar, creaming well. Add egg yolks, beat well. Blend together dry ingredients, add to egg yolk mixture, alternately with milk - blend just to mix. Blend in stiffly beaten egg whites, nuts, and lemon peel. Turn into 3 greased and lightly floured loaf pans (8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches). Bake at 350 degrees for 55-60 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean - combine lemon juice and 1/2 cup sugar. Prick all over top of loaves with fork. Immediately spoon lemon juice mixture over hot loaves. Cool in pans 1 hour. Cooks Comments and Tips . |
